A 22-meter Taiwanese fishing vessel broke in half on a beach in central Vietnam after drifting at sea for two days, Phu Yen border guards said Monday.
The vessel, identified as JYNCAY NO7, lost engine power near the sea area of Ly Son Island on Feb. 6 while en route from Taiwan to Con Son Island in Ba Ria-Vung Tau in the southern coast. It subsequently drifted toward Phu Yen, where residents reported its presence in the sea area of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward.
Border guards said rough waves ultimately split the vessel in two. The wreckage remains on the beach of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward. At the time the vessel was first spotted, there were four crew members on board, three Taiwanese and one Vietnamese, ranging in age from 23 to 61.

The vessel's owner on Monday arranged for a team to dismantle the wreckage and salvage machinery valued at over VND1 billion ($39,385). The salvaged equipment is scheduled to be transported back to Taiwan.
Phu Yen authorities have taken custody of the Taiwanese fishermen and are carrying out the necessary procedures related to the incident.
